Contradictions!

Our world is full of contradictions. Following few statements will throw some light on the subject:

1."Be satisfied with what you have got and thank god for all that he has given."
"Desire for more than what you have, else how will you grow as a person?"

2. "Always help others."
"God helps those who helps themselves."

3. "Accept yourself the way you are."
"Don't limit yourself, expect more from yourself."

4. "Don't take life so seriously. Enjoy and have fun."
"When will you start taking life seriously?"

Well, am sure there are more such statements and everyone comes across such paradoxes in life at one point in time.

Maybe these are not contradictions to some and are only two different school of thoughts, but to those individuals who partly believe in both the thought processes, these are nothing but Contradictions.

For believers of both the schools, the search for understanding 'life' begins with realizing both sides of contradictions. Life is complicated and there isn't just one right way of looking at things.

If there was, i would have never understood -'Giving charity versus my belief of everyone should work' or 'Freedom of speech versus cheap and loud shows like"Laughter Challenge on TV' or 'Indian spirit during Cricket match versus need for Vidarbh as a separate state'.

  1. contradictions , paradox does not have only two faces but have many faces depending on culture & social fabric etc.
    parents are guides
    they are pakau,
    parents are stair cases,
    parents are god
    parents love
parents are burden fit to be in old home
you can add list different words & endless topics but follow what you feel correct based on trained mind.

  2. Yes, I agree that life is full of paradoxes and contradictions. I mean how many times you get into conversations where there are 2 contradictory thoughts in your mind and you are almost playing a balancing game to chose your own way.
However, that said, some of the things that you mentioned though seemingly contradictory...they are not really contradictory when you put them in a context. For eg. God helps those who help themselves" has a different context...than "Always help others". Context is very important to understand the thought behind the thought..:)

  3. @Ujwal: Well said..yes i agree that context is very important while dealing with contradictions but in case of the statements regarding help, when somebody is preaching you that you should always help others(and other such preachings starting with "Always"), for a moment a thought crosses your mind but "God helps those who helps themselves" (which is not just a proverb but feels correct). So then you are in midst of a contradiction. Its just different ways of thinking, i guess...
But your point is well taken Sir!
